not sure what happened...
i was riding along with about 145 miles on the tank. fuel gage says about half (i dont depend on this but it is good to have). my gas light never came on. and she starts to die on me. restarted it just fine, rode for not even a quarter mile longer and died again. after some fighting got her going again for about 10 feet.
i finally pulled off the road and found a gas tank and some gas. 2 gallons in the tank now and the most i can get is 3 sputters for a start.
i tried unplugging the pcIII and going stock ecm wise, but no dice. tomorrow i am calling the dealer and having them pick it up. im right at the 1000 mile point. hopefully this is not a programmed thing where it quits when the MOCO wants to work on it.
any thoughts about what this could be?? im all ears.
thanks
nick

RE: not sure what happened...
Well it sounds like a fuel problem.
Were you actually out of gas?
My 07 EG gets about 190 average to a tank. Sometimes a little more.
If everything else is fine (electrical)...........
fuel filter (in tank) if fuel injected.
faulty pump or pump relay.
Pressure regulator not holding pressure.
Possible bad system ground.
Compter (ECM) controls the fuel pump relay via the ground circuit.
Make sure the battery cables are clean and tight at both ends.
If not fuel then it is an ECM control issue and this could be a lot of things.
Get the service manual and walk your way through the trouble shooting process.

RE: not sure what happened...
Have you tried to put more gas into the tank?
Have you ran the gas down this far before?
Reason I ask, since being a new bike something could be messed up with the fuel pickup on the fuel pump?
And if you put gas into it and it runs then it very well could be something in the tank!
Have you noticed it sputting any? Could have water in the gas too!

RE: not sure what happened...
i have ran the tank down to the low fuel light twice since getting it. yesterday the bike ran great, not a single issue. now this morning i started it up just fine the first time. left the parking lot and turned toward home. i have been fueling up at about the 130 mark just out of habit but decided to stretch out the tank this time just a bit.
i did put more gas in the tank. about 2 gallons. but still nothing. i refueled about 3 days ago so the gas is fresh.
when turning on the ignition the fuel pump stops running after the 3-4 seconds so that should mean that there is pressure, right?
tomorrow i will check the battery before the dealer picks it up.
great thing about sundays is that most bike shops are closed. not their fault, everybody needs a weekend.
just feel bad about leaving the new girl out away from home. yea and it is gonna be about 75 tomorrow.
