Default Couple ?'s On Progressive lowering kit on 14 SG?

Hello, I'm in the process of tearing my front end apart to add chrome lowers and a 21" wheel. (1) Whats the proper drop with a 21 to make it ride right, If I went the full 2" would there be any downfall? And lastly what brand and weight oil should I use? The instructions say 20 wt But I know people have experimented out there. Thanks ahead, Todd

Hello Todd,

You have precisely asked the question that I am seeking to be answered. From the bit that I have read around here, I have heard that the full 2" Drop can produce a bit of a harsh ride, so I think we should stick to 1".

In terms of the Fork Oil, as with any other oil, everyone has a different but equally valuable opinion.

I am looking forward to seeing the responses as I am equally clueless on the subject!

Cheers.

I wouldn't go over 1" for sure. Also wouldn't use Progressive springs. Racetech kit with gold or Ricor valves is a much better choice.

I bought a set of custom wheels 4 years ago that included a 21" wheel. At first I did nothing to the suspension, just rode it. Later, I changed the fork oil to heavier weight. It might have made a little difference, but not night and day. I just added the Progessive mono tubes and lowered the front end 1" and used lowering blocks to lower the rear 1" on the advice of my mechanic. Now the ride is significantly different. For lack of a better description, the bike feels more "planted." I haven't been able to ride much due to never ending rain and work, but I think this is what I should have done from the start. Oh yeah, you will have to run more air in the rear shocks if you lower the back. This is just my opinion and of course, YMMV.
