Just change out the gear set. Get you a manual and do it yourself. Here's some options.

Opinions..... A gear set will cost a lot less and if you find a good one you will be in business. Did it with my Road King and good to go. As far as years, no difference from 97 to 07. Mine was hosed and probably could have gone cheaper on eBay but bought from a forum member here as mine was becoming too problematic with nearly 100K on the clock.
