My last purchase of Mobil 1 Syn 15W-50 was at Wal-Mart....$22.xx for a 5-quart jug. I used this weight in my 04 Fat Boy (95ci, 55N Andrews Cams, 10:1 compression, etc). The bike ran great it's last 20K miles with this oil...I sold it at 30K miles when I purchased a '14 RK. I plan to use this oil in my '14 RK soon.

Blackstone and other lab results indicate that M1 Syn 15W-50 has ~1,200 ppm of ZDDP and holds up well for at least 5K miles, possibly longer (6-7K) in a Harley motor. It has a good additive package. That ZDDP level is fine for Harley motors, from what I've read. I'm no expert and not trying to start an oil debate...just looking to save some coin wherever I can. The M1 Syn 20W/50 motorcycle oil has about 1,600 ppm of ZDDP per lab tests...probably more ZDDP than what is actually needed especially if you have a cat...ZDDP is noted to degrade cats.

I like that Wal-Mart carries this oil at this price point. BTW...I've seen lab reports that indicate M1 15W 50 additive package and test specs are at least as good and maybe better than HD Syn...do some searching in this forum and online and you'll find charts from Blackstone and Stavey labs comparing these oils.

I know people that have expensive lawn equipment such as Scag or Xmark that the only oil they will use is Mobil 1 5w40 Turbo Diesel Syn. That is all I use in my 4 stroke lawn equipment, too. Far superior to Dino 30 wt.
5Qt. Jug $28 at Walmart, minus $12 rebate = $16 or $3.20 per qt.
Can't beat that!
I use 5w30 M1 Syn in vehicles, M1 V-Twin 20w50 Syn in the 'King.
2 of these rebates per household allowed, thanks for posting!
Dat be 24 buckies back in my pocket!

Your right on the money because when new m1 syn 15-50 nascar endorsed oil has 1300ppm zddp perf m1 website data and new m1 v-twin 20-50 showed 1700ppm zddp in oil testing amsoil did on motorcycle oils a few yrs back so the zddp #'s you posted are right on target too.

I was pretty involved in oil testing & research for approx 8-9yrs for another online forum (Team chevelle) when the issues with reduced zddp in motor oil when the zddp was reduced enough to cause issues with premature FT cam / lifter failures.

And that was especially an issue when running aftermarket FT perf cams with higher spring rates & more agressive lobe design requiring a ore robust anti wear/zddp pkg then most of the oil sold over the counter has these days.

But m1's nascar endorsed 15w-50 syn oil is a great oil for the HD v-twins along with m1's 20w-50 syn specifically formulated for air cooled v-twins both having robust anti wear/zddp lvl's that are not only beneficial to the roller lifters and cams in the HD but are also great at protecting the motor from excessive heat/gailing/scuffing providing an additional temporary lvl of protection past what the syn oil by itslef can provide.

The reason why m1's syn Turbo D 5w-40 oil is decent oil for the smaller air cooled motors used in powersports / constuction / Lanscaping etc is its a decent quality syn oil to begin with while also having a decent zddp lvl ( 1130ppm Phos/1250 ppm Zinc) which is great at protecting those smaller air cooled motors from extreme working cond in summer heat along wwith also doing a good job of protecting the cams/valvetrain in those smaller motors too.

Another good alt for those that are set on running 5w-40 syn oil in small pwr equip would be Shell Rotella T6 full syn 5w-40 oil that has 1300ppm zddp per mfg.

But as your likely aware of many mfg's of the small power equip motors rec single grad 30wt oil for warmer temps and 5w-30 for cooler temp
and in that case valvoline VR race oil in 30wt single or 10w-30 that are both avail in std dino or syn has 1300-1400ppm zddp (depending on which your using) would also be a good oil for power equip with small motor due to its robust zddp/anti wear pkg for good protection from excessive heat and good overall quality base stock oil too.
