I had a full vacation day to enjoy on my own. Started at 8am sharp.400+ miles. Nice little relaxing solo cruise.

Drove from Appleton to Shawano then headed straight north on Route 55 all the way up to Iron River and then over to Iron Mountain and back down to the Valley.

I DID NOT SEE ONE SCOOT that entire stretch of 55 North.That was freaky. Weather was absolutely perfecto.

55 is a great winding/hilly/wiggly road (very unusual for Wisconsin) that cuts through Indian reservations and a few National forests.

Very few cagers and no deer. And talk about desolate - there was nothing/nobody anywhere North of Crandon. Kinda spooky actually.

I pulled over at 55 and 70 for a bit - and never heard it so quiet anywhere - just me and ahyperactive woodpecker. One of those moments to treasure.

If you haven't taken this route 55, DO IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT.

Very Cool....our old stomping grounds.Being from Iron River, we been on those roads lots. Try the same route on a snowmoblie sometime. We're hoping to make it back up there this summer.

 

Dave...Sounds like a nice ride. I have to disagree with you about one thing you said, however. I live in Tomahawk, and I could show you tons of winding/hilly/wiggly roads. They're not unusual here in the northwoods, that's for sure.

 

Tomorrow morning I'm heading from Pewaukee to Fond du Lac to Neenah to Appleton to West Bend to Hartford and home. Bouncing between HD dealers to collect pins. Should be about 275 miles give or take 50. FuelMoto is in Neenah. Having slip-ons, K&N, PCIII installed. Then I'm enjoying my new ride on the way home. Should be bikes everywhere tomorrow. Weather's gonna be gorgeous!

I grew up in Waukesha, so I'm very familar with the route you're taking tomorrow. Have a safe ride! The weather will be nearly perfect.

 

RanD - I've only been up in them there parts a couple times - would love to live up that way someday!!!

There's also a cycle show / rally / gathering in Green Bay at the Brown County Arena across from Lambeau 10 to 4.

Hey Dave, wish I'd known you were coming. I went from Iron Mountain, north to Marquette, back down to Sagola, over to Crystal, and back to Iron Mountain. We were on the same road, but I missed you. GREAT day for a ride. Holler next time and I'll meet you!

I agree with you about southern WI (especially SE). Not only are the rides more boring, but the traffic is ten times what it is up here.
