Default Avon grips vs performance machine?

So I'm gonna be doing my bars soon....I was gonna switch the grips....I have read a lot about how many people like the avon grips...was looking at the cushioned air grips in all black....I see a lot of people comparing them to performance machine grips and how they are all metal and so much better...can't make up my mind....any thoughts ....Ryan

P.s...also looking for some black mirrors but can't make up my mind!

I have had 2 sets of PM Grips on my bikes. They seem to be very nice quality, but they come at a price. PM is definitely proud of their products and it shows in how much they charge for them.

The only complaint I have is that the throttle side grip has some slop to it. The tolerances are not very good where the grip fits into the clamp area. You can take some of the play out, but can only do so much before the grip starts to bind up.

Every PM grip I have ever seen does this on the throttle side.

Good luck in you choice.

I've had Avon grips on two bikes now.
Most comfortable grip I've ever used.

Thanks for the responses so far....I'd rather have no slop, but I did read a few comments on the pm issue of slop .....all I read about the avon grips is how comfortable they are....I'm planning on getting on all black so I'm not worried about cheap looking chrome or anything on the ends....ryan

Just installed a set of PM grips as part of my bar change/control upgrade winter project. Spendy but look and feel great. I got the larger diameter which fits my hands better. Oh, and no slop!

I have the same set (in chrome) and in their XL which is a good fit for my large hands - yes pricy but I think they were worth the price

Went with the Avons and love em! I chose the "velvet air", but after feeling the "air cushion" I wish I had went that direction. The velvet air grips are smoother to the touch, but the air cushion has little nubs and are more sticky. Easier to hold on to. The left grip has a sleeve in it also which has a lip on it that fits inside your switch housing and holds lit steady in place. NO GLUE and solid as a rock. Whoever designed these grips was using their head. Will never use anything else!
