Ha, ha, ha....

My wife's family thinks that if it's gonna go down below freezing and you have only a 1/4 tank in the car, you gotta go fill it up or the gas in the tank will freeze. No amount of talking will convince them otherwise (gas typically remains COMBUSTIBLE at like -100F - the best figure I've gotten is that, while it differs by gas component, gas freezes as something like -238 degrees F).
The gas itself may not freeze, but the small amounts of water in the gas will freeze and cause your vehicle to not start/run. This is rarely a problem here in a state that has had mandatory ethanol for years, but I must have gotten a bad tank of gas this last winter during a cold snap that had the overnight lows -20*F....My good battery would crank over the motor just fine, the water in the block [anti-freeze] was plenty strong and still free flowing, so the only thing left to try was a healthy dose of HEAT [Isopropyl or methanol] fuel system de-icer...A half hour after adding a bottle to the tank, she started right up.

So while it's true that the 'liquid gold' in the tank will not turn into 'solid gold', it can freeze enough to cause problems with a vehicle.

Ive seen electricians put extra insulation on wall switches to conserve energy? looks like a plastic/foam templet that goes behind switch cover?
That keeps drafts from coming out, got nothing to do with electrical. They are used on outside outlets and switches. There it keeps the water out.

A neighbor came over to look at my RoadKing and said I should put a piece of rubber under the stand when it is parked in the garage. He said that the jiffy stand will slowly drain the battery acting as a ground. Sounds kind of strange to me, but ?????
Before things started to be made with plastic. Yea I'm that old. The material that they made the cases out of could do a small drain. Damn that was in the 50's. [/quote]

Give the Subject Matter Expert a kickstand made of rubber to use on his bike.

A pointed wood Jiffy stand wont help after the wood gets wet! You should prolly put a water diode (Check Valve) in line with the wood stand so the electricity cant flow out of the bike.

Are you referring to me about the battery above?
If so then you'd be calling me a liar and that ain't nice.
and the statement about the battery is true!
Bike is 01 flhtci, wrecked 1/11/02. Feb 02 took in the house
stripped and as time and monney (mostly money) would permit
rebuilt and customized it.
That battery sat just likeI said on the back porch until March of this year.
I brought it in, put voltmeter on it and it said 4.89 volts.
I was surprised I thought it would be totally dead.
It charged up good enough to test starting the bike.
With charger turned to boost, it cranked over. Moved bike out of frontroom
(was there for 5 years ..no garage).
Put charger back on and bike started.
re-started bike 2 days later with out the charger.
Bike has sat outside now a month no charger soon as weather clears we will
see what happens.

That ding-a-ling! The jiffy stand is where ya hitch the charger for God sake - the red cable I believe.
