Should I stay or should I go!
I have an amazingly beautiful 1999 RKC in blue pearl with 35K. Always wanted a RK and found this one at a great price, got rid of the metric. Have owned the bike now for two years with no real issues. Took it to the local HD dealer for the 35K service and to check everything out including those darn cam tensioner shoes as I didn't know how bad they were.
Note: my bike has the Magnetti fuel-injection which I knew nothing about at the time of purchase but now do although my bike currently runs perfect.
Service manager calls and says he has good news, bike has a gear-drive setup so nothing to worry about and someone before me did the right thing and everything else checks out good.
Now the not so good information. Get to the dealer shop and he tells me I have a beautiful bike but if he was me he would sell it quick and get a newer bike with a carb or newer FI with Delphi as he has seen lots of problems with these bikes with MMI. (not if but when you have problems we probably won't be able to fix your bike). He did state there are two companies that sell a carb replacement complete kit for about $1800 and about $1200 labor, so about $3000 for the new carb setup. OUCH. I broke out into a cold sweat as I drove away. What would you do?

That system works fine if you don't do big motor mods. Leave it alone and ride the crap out of it. If it ever does give you issues, convert to a carb. You don't need a pre-made kit. It would be a fun project...Forget what the guy above me said. You have a great motor. I wouldn't trade it for a newer bike...You have plenty to lose. It's in your wallet...

I would say the same thing to you if I were him... His job is to get you on a new ride as quickly as possible. That way this wicked process of "making it our own" starts all over again. Mine needed new rubber so instead of the hassle I traded my 09 FLHX for a 14 FLHTK. Some say I was rash but at least i don't have to deal with buying new tires.
