Bike wouldn't downshift this evening.

They replaced the whole crankcase cover and derby cover (mine was scratched up) so they had to do fluids as well. Anyway, I drove it to work today and it shifted fine. I will be taking it back to the dealer tomorrow or Saturday to at least have them check it out just so i can have some peace of mind Thanks again for all the feedback!

The Hondamatics didn;t take the world by storm...
The auto transmission doesn't allow control of slowing as well as a manual transmission.
- the ridley looks more like a lawnmower motor with sheet shiny stuff stapled to it.
my trail 90 has the auto clutch- as you move the shifter is disengages, then engages the clutch- pretty nifty

I ran into a similar situation when riding in stop and go traffic this past summer. It was probably the hottest temps my bike have ever seen. I was able to upshift, but bike would not downshift. I pulled the bike over and after it cooled for a few minutes, it went back to downshifting. I think what happened was the cable stretched out a little with the extreme heat. Once I got to my destination I adjust the clutch cable a little tighter and have not had the problem again since.

It happened to me once:
Changed shift rod, when putting it back, couldn't remember the original rod was on the outside or inside of the front shifter arm, I put it on the inside as it appears to be straight. I dry shifted (bike not started) through the gears and it was fine.
Rode the following day and it was fine till I got on the highway for ~60 miles, exit and then it won't downshift, no fun taking off in 5th gear. Parked to have lunch and it worked again properly. Looked at other bikes, went home and position the shift rod to the outside of the front shift arm, and has been working ever since.
I think rod length definitely has something to do with it, along with fluid/gear temperature.
