Default xm radio

I am wanting to hardwire my xm radio into my 2007 ultra. I have read numerous post on tapping into the cig lighter or off the headlight. My question is should i wire a 12v adapter then plug in xm cord tape up and hide in fairing or are there any other options any help on this would be helpful

depends on the xm- my old delphi units take 6 volt- so on one vehicle I wired in the adapter to the 12 volt...taped it up inside the fairing and the wire running out to the radio.

on another, I use the delphi/xm FM modulator ( this style you dial up 88.7 on the radio for the XM)...and it has a 6 volt power cable which plugs into the xm receiver

so it depends on which handful of parts you have

that'll take care of the audio part...and then just tap into power for your onyx.

an easy $20 solution

here's how I had mounted on the evo- easy to thumb controls- I sometimes used the remote control to change channels- or would give remote to passenger

couple of clamps added:

best antenna position, even with a soft bag on rack

The adapter mk has listed is the (by far) best way to get the FM signal to your radio, especially with one of the onyx receivers. FM transmitters, while they do suffice, usually are crap, there are a few decent ones, but none that can compare to the FMDA25 adapter. It is essentially a FM transmitter, only it does not transmit out from the unit to the antenna, it actually induces the signal on the antenna cable. If you are not going to use an AUX cable to hook up the unit, then do yourself a big favor, and buy the adapter mentioned.

Thanks for the replies and pictures on the other post that helps very much I could use aux but want to go fm transmitter route. Now for power and hate to sound stupid but is it best to use sirius power adapter wired into accessory adapter inside fairing or anything out on market that would be better thanks for any replies

Yes, just use the power line that came with the unit, and just connect it to whichever source you find easiest inside the fairing, I am sure you have two or three choices, like lighter, 2nd headlight, etc.

I can not stress enough on the importance of getting the adapter, since you are not going to use the AUX connection for the input.
