My youngest brother went thru exactly what you are (Ex wife, 3 kids to pay for) but he did the right thing and took care of his obligations first. (just what you're doing) He ended up riding metric stuff during this time and I was proud to ride with him. When others brag or show you pics of their Harley, you show them pics of your beautiful kids! The toys will come and go but family is forever.

shopped long hard and careful. Talked to several diff dealers. got my bike 7k or more less than new... but it was almost new. 5 months old with lots of warranty left, less than 2k on the miles. That made mine possible. Market is full of used great bikes now

Good post. I rode a Vulcan 750 when my kids were home. It was a year old leftover, for $5,300. Great first bike. My friend who is worth millions gave me crap, about it, but he wasn't paying my bills.

I bought an 8 year old Garage Queen with only 2k miles, and haven't had any problems with it.

One reason I finally have disposable income is I don't trade cars in until they are old and decrepit. I haven't been that smart about financial advice, but The radio show Bruce Williams used to say "Never invest in a depreciating asset."

That is one piece of advice I have listened to.

I'm a retired copy and I've got 6 of 'em. The wife thinks there's 4 but 2 I can't bring home until 2 are gone. It's a disease but I never had to buy an ex-wife a house. The trick is put up with her ****. LOL

I just make the payments till I can pay it off, financed what I could afford to pay back monthly. Got a good interest rate also.

That's it for many I'm afraid.
Just the way it is.
