I've just kept paying off previous bikes early and trading up as I went. Not the most economical way to do it, but it kept me riding along the way. Probably should have spent some of that on some house projects, but that's just no fun. Lol

I'm more perplexed by all the $70,000 diesel pickup trucks running around my area. They are as common as Corollas around here.

I'm a single father, I'm an electrician, and I own 4 bikes. I bought my 03 Buell as a leftover in 05. Gave $6500 brand new. Got a loan and paid it off. Bought my 98 S1W Buell from a buddy as a basket case. $1300 paid cash. Bought my 00 FXST with money I saved. Paid $6900 cash. Bought my 11 Electra Glide in July of 14. Made a down payment and have a payment. I don't have a car or truck payment, my house is paid for, I don't have cable, internet, or cell phone bill. I pay insurance and electric. I purposely don't have credit cards, I don't care what the neighbors do, and i put my daughter above everything. I pay just shy of $600 a month in child support. I often wonder how people do it. I see my buddy who makes literally 3 times as me struggle. Then i remember he owns nothing. Everything belongs to the bank. I prefer to only owe on one thing at a time. I'll pay this bike off, and buy another. I won't sell or trade in. Just the way i prefer it. My brother buys guns under the premise it's money in the bank. I have those too. I remember my grandmother's motto: use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without. I try to stay humble like she did. She lived through the depression. She saw the worst of it. I have no clue, I'm grateful that we never had to want. I think a lot of people are spread too thin and try to keep up appearances. I would be sick if I had my buddies bills.

During her eulogy my neighbor, who is the pastor at a local church, brought up a story my grandfather told him. He (my grandfather) said he came home from work at the steel mill. He asked my grandmother if he could get some new long underwear. The guys at the mill were picking on him, because the patches on his patches on his long underwear were worn through. She instructed him to go to work the next day, ask the guys in the locker room if any of them paid cash to build a brand new house, if any of them raised their hands she would buy him new long underwear. She spent the next night mending his long johns. That was somewhere around 1966 or so. I have the contract from when they built that house. It cost $18,500 with brick veneer and hardwood floors wall to wall. I live in that house now. It cost me $3500 just to refinish the floors. Another $5000 for new Windows. Boy times have changed.

Some people have lots of money, and 25k is nothing to them. Some are using the money that should be going in to their retirement and won't have anything for their retirement.

I could afford one, if I didn't have other priorities. I love my '03, and don't like the Rushmore styling. If I liked the style, I could buy one but would have to cut other corners. I don't want to. My wife deserves some nice things, I am not going to suck up our disposable income.

I just bought a 2015 Chevy Sonic for $13k. It is a nice car. I don't think a new Harley is worth 2 of them, so I will just keep my '03 in good repair.
