Default road glide owners-steering head grease zerk

Servicing a bud's 05 road glide and am going to be swapping out his straight grease zerk on the steering head for a 45 or a 90 degree one for easier service. I was looking at it and [sm=WTFsgign.gif]there is a bracket that is bolted pretty much right over the zerk and I can't even get a wrench on it to take it off. I have to replace his handlebars anyway in a little bit, but I was going to attempt to change out the zerk now without having to remove the fairing cap. Any tips?

well HD keeps changing things over the years, so no help here.
My 01 EG was easy to get at.
Guess I would wait until you can get at it and just do it once.
If need be you can make it even easier.
get the appropriate fittings as needed from a big truck dealer or NAPA.
and insert a flexible hose of 6 inches or so in length in the neck and put
the zerk on the end. Just tuck it up behind the lower fairing above the bottom
triple tree.

dawg, On my 05 RG it wasn't an issue, butwith my 07 RG the notch in the fairing bracketwas not large enough to get the grease gunonto theOEM zerk fitting and the spacing between the bracket arm was not large enough when in place to screw in a replacement 45 degree fitting,I found the easiest way to replace the fitting was to loosen the top faring bracket bolt thenremove the lower bolt completely (they are bolts about 3-1/2" long- to get the lower bolt out you need to turn the front fork, once turned there is enough room to clear the fork leg)once removed the fairing and bracket can be tilted up enough to remove the OEM zerk and install the 45 easily. When you install the 45 turn it so it is slightly pointing down. Now its a breeze usinga standard grease gun with a 12" flex hose to get on the zerk fitting.
