He is 11 hours from I-10, that will take him way out of his way, too far south.

Accuweather has a trip planner with weather details along the route. Pretty cool

Just checked the weather forecast for Flagstaff AZ and showing low 60s for a high this weekend, so you may want to consider taking I-40 across. Same forecast for OK City and Amarillo TX. So you may have a great ride ahead of you!

ok, Im not ever gonna let you navigate

that adds 400 miles* to the trip- lotta detour for good eats

OP the desert air is dry- we see out forecasted highs about 4pm...so before noon and after sunset, the temps will be much cooler.

* minimum going thru Ft Worth and along 20

if you look at a map I10 runs pretty much East from LA to PHX, then drops South to Tucson...then kinda SE to EL Paso...then it heads East again thru San Antonio and Houston- I40 is a more used E/W

OP as above. Northern AZ is at elevation so cooler still around freezing overnights- same with your route through NM.

54 thru wichita to Tucumcari NM- there you pick up I40 West
( or if you want all interstates, I35 to OK City and pick up I40 West- this adds a hundred miles)

to Holbrook AZ, South on 377...west on 260, South on 87 takes you into Scottsdale/ Fountain Hills, or the East Valley...mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Apache Junction

Another vote for MKs route. I've ridden that way before. I live in Fort Worth, and it's a good 5 hours to get down to I-10 from here and you never know how bad traffic will be on I35 around Waco for construction and Austin and SA. Go to OKC and catch 40 and then you could head south on 25 in ABQ. If I remember right, parts of 40 are a toll road.

Amarillo and Tucumcari are pretty high elevations and can get cold at night. Don't mind the bad smells as you travel though the area, it will either be cow **** or natural gas production depending on which way the wind is blowing. Enjoy the ride!!!

I left KC and went south then took I-40 to Kingman, AZ then North to Vegas last year and it was a great ride--and scenic. I loved the scenery in NM.

Somewhere around Flagstaff you could go south to Phoenix??? Sedona along the route would be fantastic!

if he sees Flagstaff he is adding 120 miles to the trip...Holbrook is where to leave I40.

The first time we drove through there at night my BIL and I were looking at each other thinking the other crapped themselves it smelled so strong. Went through another time and his wife had she her shirt over her nose and mouth trying not to gag from the smell - it was pretty funny.
