Default Brass Nuts pressed into inner fairing

Thought I had read somewhere here on the forum something about a repair to the brass pressed in nets in the inner fairing. Can't seem to find where I read about how to repair. Replaced Windshield yesterday and appears that one of my inserts is loose. Someone said it was one of HD worse ideas!!!

Thanks!

Roger

You can get replacements at you dealer. Remove the old fastener. Insert one of the fairing screws into the new barrel with slotted side toward fairing and screw in. Once tight back out the fairing screw.

Part number is 16585-96. Once you get the press in nut out, use a 3/8x16 NC bottom/plug tap and tap the inner fairing hole, then just screw the replacement insert in with a wide blade flat blade screw driver. Just replaced all 3 of mine today.

Exactly what he said, did mine last summer the same way. Be sure to use the tap.

I just used some gel type crazy glue on the old ones. JB weld would work good too. Just don't get any in the threads.

I did likewise with two part epoxy. I just threaded the bolt even with the end of the insert so that the extra epoxy would ooze out the side instead of up the threaded portion....Once the insert was bottomed out, I unthreaded the bolt and cleaned off the epoxy from its end....That was five years ago and I've never had another problem.
