No that's good, I ordered the 1" axle kit also and will pick it up today. That's what I need, is to see if the center spacer for the 1" axle fits or not. I hope to get the wheel off today also.

The center hole for the spacer isn't critical, it just needs to be large enough so that the spacer fits. The spacer doesn't do any locating, it just relieves side pressure on the bearings, I would go at least .200 larger than the OD of the axle spacer so as not to get any bind.

You don't say whether you have spokes or alloys ... or did I miss it? Are you doing the front too?

I don't know, I went the other way about it and sold my old wheel and bought a new 1" wheel, it came with everything.

The balance was less than machining, parts etc would have cost. Keep an eye on the usual sources. Actually I did it twice and the second was a complete rear end, swing arm etc, from someone who had a trike conversion.

Re caliper ... are you going to upgrade to the Brembo brake too?

The axle is slightly less than an inch so an inch dead would probably do it if you are drilling the TC alloy mounted one. But I suggest measuring yours up because they are all a little different. An axle fit is about 5 thou clearance but you could bring it down tighter than that, say 2 or 3. I've never tried fitting that caliper to one and no idea if there is enough meat to do so.

You considering milling out one like this ...?

Thanks DTTJGLIDE. that's kinda what I was asking about. Dun, stock 9 spoke aluminum wheels from 2001 RK . Just keeping the stock brake set up for now... Not doing anything with the front wheel

I lucked out on a set of 1" Airstrike wheels really cheap. Stock 1" Fork lowers come up from time to time basically free. Most you need pay is, say, $50. I see them going through Ebay attracting no bids now and again.

Might be a good option to keep in mind if you have time. This time of year is a good time to buy.

Front wheel is 1" axle 00-07, caliper needs to be a snug fit on axle, compare current axle OD to caliper ID & machine to same fit. Make sure it remains perfectly straight so it isn't cocked on the rotor, the caliper is more critical than the wheel.

The axle spacer is right at 1.250"...the hole in the wheel is a little over 1". There has been more that one instance of of wheels failing after being bored out...though the general consequence is they were damaged by being "hand drilled"as apposed to being properly machined...none the less a forum sponsor who sells swingarm upgrade parts says you must use a 2002 up wheel...and a few sentences down he suggests machining the trans pivot... while I am sure it is just a liability thing, you might shoot him an email and ask why.

From his instructions,

"3. The 2002 & up rear axle is not interchangeable with the ¾” axle used in earlier models. A 1” wheel bearing can not be put in a 2001 or earlier wheel as you can get bearings to fit but a wheel spacer must be used between the bearings and the 2001 & earlier model wheel will accommodate this spacer."

I believe the last line is a misprint, shouldn't it read "2001 and earlier model WILL NOT accommodate this spacer"?

What are you guys using to adapt the swing arm bushings/pivot shaft?I already have a bare 2008 arm,Airstrike wheel,Brembo caliper and bracket, looking for the most cost effective/simple method.
