I know this is an older thread
But what was the verdict on this topic? Did the Harbor Freight solar panel mentioned for under $20 do the job? I'm interested in anyone's advice on this because my bike will sit outside for about a month at a time in a parking lot, so I need a solar battery tender solution.

I bought the one in the attachment below. I used is for when my Harkey was in my enclosed trailer for extended periods of time. I mounted the panel to the roof and ran the cable inside. I have dual GPS trackers that will run the battery down in 4 days.i know the solar charger works because, when the Harley is in the trailer for extended periods of time connected to the solar charger, the battery stayed charged.

Oh yeah, but it needs sunlight on the panel...

I use one of these on my truck since it sits most of the year. It starts right up even if it sits for months. Nothing to complain about. I just set it on the dashboard.

I have the Battery Tender one, it works well for me but I have it mounted in a window and it gets sunlight at least 10 hrs a day. The whole idea of a SOLAR panel is SUN LIGHT.

5-10W solar panels are specified to deliver 12VDC. Our batteries need at least 13.5V to remain charged. Has anyone checked this ?

Default what do you want to do?

Solar cells can be used in many fields, solar street lights, energy-saving lamps, garden lights, to find the right objects, because there are many problems, such as the length of time, brightness, etc.

They're intended for 12v systems, that's why they're advertised as such. Don't worry about the semantics.

You might be a legitimate candidate for a Li battery. One of these wouldn't need to be on a tender for the time periods you're talking and they DO at least work.

Keep in mind there is an absolute difference between SELF DISCHARGE in an Li battery and the constant LOW DRAIN of various keep alive memories, clocks, and alarms. Li batteries have a long SHELF LIFE when NOT being drained by various accessories. With constant drain, they will die just like any other battery and may not recover below a certain discharge point.
