48 State Iron Butt Ride Suggestions
#12
If you are doing this just to say you did all 48 states then hit the Interstate and try for your 1,000 miles a day, which I doubt you can maintain for very many days.
If you want to experience the US then slow down, take your time and enjoy what this great country has to offer.
You asked about great rides not to miss. It has been my experience that if you do the "great don't miss motorcycle rides" you ain't about to be any where close to 1,000 per day.

The Pacific Coast Highway from Ventura to San Francisco is Magnigicant... If you are gonna spend the night in Big Sur reserve a spot now... or ride another two hours in the dark like we did... I think the best ride in the United States though is right there where you are... 3 Sisters... Highway one from Mena Arkansas to Talimena Oklahoma is Beautiful plan to hit that early so you will have time to stop at a couple of the 15 Scenic View Vista Parks... ... The Dragon is fun but I could hardly get out of second gear. The Million Dollar Highway is awesome... Do Bear Tooth Pass north to south, down into Yellow Stone Park, finishing in Idaho Springs... Beautiful Day, Beautiful Finish... Spend the night at the ski town on the north side of the pass.... Cain't remember the name of it but I will get it for you. Start up the pass in the morning and finish in Idaho Springs around dark... It is a beautiful town... Then get up the next day and ride thru Utah into the Dessart... Beautiful Ride... The Wife and I did 5 thousand miles in 15 days starting from Houston... We did 4oo to 600 miles a day and that was pusing it. We spent 3 days with friends not riding during those fifteen days. I will send you maps of my Track if you want.. https://www.facebook.com/tim.scheffer.3
