Not really trying to be the devils advocate here, but wouldn't locking one side be good enough anyway? If one side is locked you still can't take off the pack.

On the 08 and earlier it was so much easier to secure a detachable tour pak. This is how I did mine:





With that being said I really don't trust the options for the 09 and up. So when it comes time to add a tour pak I am going rigid mount. In the time I had a detachable I took it off maybe once or twice. And once was for a full detail.
