Default lay down license plate mount

Has anyone purchased and used one of these? Doesn't look real fancy, but is only $25 shipped.

remove your mount, select a drill bit the same size as the bolt holes. drill a hole centering in the edge of the depression just above the old holes. bolt back on and you have a laydown mount for free.

I bought one several years ago. It is nothing more than a piece of aluminum cut and bent. I made a few out of street signs after I got one for a pattern. They look nice, if you take two cheapo chrome license plate frames and sandwich the plate between them.

BTW, you can get a lay down tag bracket from Jireh's for about 10 bucks if you want to buy one instead of making your own or modding your existing one.

looks a lot like the one i bought off ebay. there is a slight difference between what people are telling you and the actual construction. the laydown plate has a dimple with a flat spot in it to hold it in place.

check this link, same thing, cheaper and decent shipping.

I looked into these. Told the wife about it, and on her own she went to hd and bought me theirs for $52. Only difference , besides the price, I can see is the little Harley davidson reflector. If she hadn't bought it for me,I would have bought that one off ebay. I think it is a good buy. Try jireh's, less expensive leaves more cash for other goodies.

the HD one says it won't work with the quick detach tourpack rack... I keep wondering if these other ones will... I really want the lay down plate, but our MD plates are so freakin huge I am not sure it will work.

hmmm, good question. i don't have the detachable tour pack so couldn't tell you. i do know that the layback plate does angle the top in, so it very well could interfere. you could always get the cheap on off ebay and then see what kind of modification you would have to do to get them both to fit. worse comes to worst, you're out 20 bucks on the plate kit. or you could switch back and forth. when you are using the tourpak, use the regular plate mount. when your done, change over. its not like its hard or even time consuming.

Looks like the same one I have but I bought 2 for $35.00.One is as good as the other (if it's stainless) so it comes down to price.

Thanks for all the responses... I actually dug a little more on EBAY and ordered one for $16.54 shipped. Looked very similar to all the others... if it turns out to be a piece of crap, at least it was a cheap piece of crap.
