read the owners manual.

the alarm has a PIN which is user registered- MANY riders don't bother until too late and sit on their helmet roadside waiting for a truck.

once the PIN is registered, it is entered with the turn signal buttons, like entering the high score on frogger

Thank you sir! Guilty as charged, just skimmed the manual and would of never heard of it if it wasn't for you and this post.

Default Changing battery on fob

Will the fob need to be synced back up with the bike since it won't be "powered" when pulling out the old battery? Probably a dumb question...but figured I'd check.

I always keep a couple spare batteries in the saddlebag but knowing the alarm override PIN is priceless when you're on the road. Like mentioned, I write the sequence on the card in the back of the owner's manual and keep it in my wallet just in case.

i don't change my fob batteries every year. i change them when they go dead. but then i know how to use my pin, too.

your dealer sucks. they should have gone over this with you when you bought the bike. unless you bought it used, then you really need to read the manual and change the pin from what the previous owner had set. and learn how to use the pin in your garage. on the side of the road is not when you need to be trying to learn the procedure.

You can get a Multimeter for like 6 bucks at Harbor Freight.....take out the battery in question an check it. I know, I know....a battery is like two bucks (whatever) and you might as well change it while you have it out. BUt why change a good battery? hey, it's your money....and I have a multimeter.
i don't even bother checking it. just use it till it goes dead. i'm quick enough on the pin that i can enter it without holding anyone up (if i'm in a group). otherwise, next time i'm in town, i'll pick one up. i know it's only a couple of bucks, and it's a small battery, but why add more to our landfills if it isn't necessary?

good pt. I'm going through that now. would have had it fixed last wk. cept they only had a card with 4 batteries and I just don't need 2 of them going dead while I use one and have a back up. think I'll start useing new yrs. OH, and I prolly should read about the pin# also. thanks!
