Default 2006 Road King regulator test

I'm having charging issues with my 2006 Road King Classic. I've done the battery test, and it is fine. I'm trying to do the regulator and stator test, but there's one thing none of the threads, videos, etc I've looked at explains. How do I unplug the regulator wiring so I can test the pins? I can see where the three wires plug into the primary casing to travel to the stator. Do I just pull really hard to disconnect, or am I missing a retainer clip or something somewhere? I know it's probably a really dumb question and I'm just missing something easy, I just don't want to start pulling and end up with a bigger issue than I already have.

I believe on the 2006 the alternator unplugs at the regulator-

so you can unplug there and test the stator output at the plug.

( sorry I dont have your year model..I have older and newer)

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. You may be able to answer your question by looking at one of the on-line parts websites, like this one. That should confirm where the plug is and give you a better chance of getting it apart (as Mike suggests, it does indeed seem to be at the regulator)! You may also find the Stickies on the charging system in our Tech Electrical section helpful.

Really can't verify charging system changes between 06 and 08 but on my 08 the stator wire coming from the primary case plugs directly into the regulator and can be removed there to test the stator. And if I remember correctly. .. yes there was a tab I had to squeeze to release the plug.

I had to do the same test on my 06 FLHR when I still had it. I can verify like the others have said that the stator wire runs into the voltage regulator. You pull out the wire where it connects to the voltage regulator and test from there.
