ok. burning oil I think
I am a long time lurker and I have a concern about my 05 Road King. I'm just wanting some opinions. I think, well I know, my road king is using alot of oil. I bought it Halloween day'06 and it had 2600 miles on it. Checked the oil and it need some so I put filled it to the level mark. Well here it is 5 months later and it just turned 5000 miles this past weekend and I have had to put damn near 2 1/2 to almost 3 quarts in it. Now, I now something is wrong and have already been to the dealer about it but they gave me the run around. It's still under warranty too.
Has anybody else had this problem?

I had the same problem with my'05 Ultra. The dealer replaced the valves seals and the heads the first time. Worked ok for about 1500 miles then starting using about a quart every 5--700 miles. Dealer said it was a "known" issue and the second time replaced the valves seals with a different type that harley was using. I traded the bike about a week later for an 07.

RE: ok. burning oil I think
Your problem sounds very much like my own, with my 05 Road King. Last fall several of my riding buddies noticed small puffs of light blue smoke coming from my right exhaust, during upshifting. Trips to the dealer resulted in "it's asummer fuel mixture" response. A check of oil level revealed I was down a qt and a half in about 2000 miles. A second opinion from another dealer immediately identified the problem as valve seals, apparently a common problem on the 05 engines (not common enough for a recall, though.) This was confirmed by a check of both spark plugs which had a dark brown and oily residue on them. All parts and labor were covered by the MOCO. Problem solved in about 2 hours with new valve seals. Bike runs great. Check here on the forum, there were numerous threads about this issue last October when I was searching under oil related problems. Good luck.
BTW - consider a big bore kit upgrade when they replace the seals, since the MOCO is paying for all the labor to tear down the jugs.
