I can just reach down and wobble it. Checked the nut because I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to fall out while riding home and it was tight. Is there something inside that's known to fail? Spring or bushing maybe?
Sounds as if the spring has stretched. A member posted a great thread some while ago describing a remarkably easy way to fit a replacement. It seems darned difficult to do without his insight. Buy a new one and we'll see if we can find that thread!

Easy as Cake.
Prop bike upright or have someone hold it level. Take the stop doohinky off of the top of the stand. Swing the kickstand fully forward to totally release tension on the spring . Remove old spring and put new one on. Swing stand to up position, and replace the stop doohinky.
