I carry an extra spring and cable ties ( in case i cant get the spring on). The cable tie is a bitch to get on and a bitch to take off, but you can ride with it. Better if you have a riding partner or passenger to help.

In over 40 years of owning and riding Harleys I think I have replaced two jiffy springs, but never needed to do any roadside repairs on 'em!

Mine neither. Close, but not quite. Be it manufacturing tolerances or some aftermarket spring, mine doesn't quite come off either. No big deal in any case.
