I just had these graphics painted on my sg,and they scuffed up and put fresh clear coat on the entire bike. Oh yeah I almost forgot put a new cvo rear fender on so it had to be painted black. This entire paint job was $1250.00 there's no way I would pay $600.00 for a painted fairing.

Depending on how deep the scuffs are, this could be a relatively easy fix. If the scuffs aren't "through" the clear, you should be able to wet-sand and buff the fairing. If they're through the clear but not through the color, you should be able to wet-sand, have somebody shoot some clear, and then wet-sand and buff.

Today's basecoat/clearcoat paints are much more forgiving than they were years ago. Best of luck.

Scuffs are through he clear, but not through the base. I can hang a thumbnail on it. I'm not comfortable with DIY paint/body. I'll end up having to have someone at least spray clear on it, and whoever that is will know more about fixing it than I do.

That doesn't mean anything.

I had some VERY deep, what I would call gouges... bad ones.

A GOOD body man used some compound and buffed them out in 10 minutes.

Take it to a QUALITY body shop, and see what they say. You may be surprised and be able to get it fixed for under $50.

Unless you're a paint expert, or can plainly see the metal in the scratches, it is worth a shot.

I'm with SafetyMan on this. You might even try an auto detailer or a boat detailer and see if they can buff it out. The boat guys tend to be absolute wizards with a buffer and something the size of an outer fairing would be like nothing to them.

Whatever you end up doing, please update this thread.

If you are going to keep the bike and ride it for more years. I would put in some touch up paint and then try and buff it all out. It is not a structural issue, just cosmetic. If I was thinking of trading it off, I would go to a body shop and let them work on it. That would be cheaper than the OEM replacement.

The paint was rubbed completely off down to the bare plastic.

If the scuffs are through the clear, but not through the base then the clear can be touched up real easy. Three hundred is to much shop around.
Even If the base is through black is easy to match, shop around.
This is an easy touch up just about any paint shop can do this.

Bike parts are not like car parts, they suck to paint

Vivid Black is an easy color to do, Ford UA or any code 99 paint is a close match

what does 300 bucks get you.. not a lot.

Figure at 50 bucks an hour labor

1 hour to sand and buff after paint 1 hour plus $8.10 in materials

.3 hours clean and degrease before repairs start

2.5 hours repair time, $30.00 repair materials.

2.0 hours refinish time, plus $150 dollars for paint and refinishing materials.

5.8 @ $50, plus 158 in materials...

$448.10 to repair.... if I was quoting the job that is what I would write, plus striping.

I am told there are AM fairings out there, or a friendly dealer that has free shipping over 200 bucks (Surdyke) would probably be cost effective.

oh did I mention bike parts suck to work on, get set up to spray ( old ironing boards are a good platform to build jigs on)

Pricing like you mention seems real world to me. What I ultimately did was take it to a local guy that my local Harley dealer uses for all their paint work. $300 got it fixed, still have pinstripes that I wanted to keep, and it looks like black glass. If you're in the Houston area and need paint I would recommend him.
