Default Ultra seat on RK

Got a question that hopefully you guys can help me out with. Got a RK and with a bad back the seat is not quite comfortable as I would like. The dealer suggested an Ultra seat. I did sit for a few seconds on an ultra, and the seat is clearly more substantial.

The question is: being a larger (wider) seat, would it look out of place on a RK? Understanding that looks do count....

thanks

I put an Ultra seat on my Roadking when the wife and I do a tour. I also put on a tourpak at the same time. To me the passenger portion of the Ultra seat looks a little bulky on my bike until the tourpak is on.

Just FYI I find the Roadking seat more comfortable than the Ultra seat but I think that's more to do with riding positition. My wife loves the Ultra seat for long trips.

My bike is an 07. Maybe with the newer bikes there is an improvement in comfort when you use an Ultra seat.

If it was me I would first look at a driver's back rest. That helped me more than anything else.

Good luck

unless you and your buddies are more shallow than Hal, put the seat on that lets you ride the bike - looks don't matter that much - it's not like you're putting an elvis alligator seat on it...

Here is a picture with the Ultra seat. I take it off when I remove the back rest as it looks goofy.

@ Ben, thanks....hmm, it would look a bit large without the back rest.....so, it comes down to comfort vs visual....life is full of compromises...lol.

The Ultra seat came stock on my Anniversary Road King. I like how it looks, with or without the backrest. They share the exact same chassis. Its all good. In fact, one of the most important reasons I chose the Anni version of the Road King, was the upgraded seat. The very thought of buying a brand new motorcycle that needs a new seat, right off the bat, was just ridiculous.

I changed mine right off the bat. The ultra seat is a lot more comfortable for me, and soaks up a lot more road stuff.

I have 2 of them, and there is a difference. The one I use is an 08 or 09, whichever year they made the new style seat (no tab in the front of the seat). It sits farther back than the 14, which feels scrunched up. Both are closer than the stock seat.

Here's a picture.

Also consider a Road Glide seat. I put one on my Ultra when I removed the tourpak. Doesn't look near as ugly from the rear. Just as comfortable for the rider, not sure about the passenger.

A Corbin Dual Tour looks very good on a Road King, and is the most comfortable seat I have ever ridden. The Mustang touring seat also looks good and is very comfortable. In my opinion, there is no such thing as a comfortable factory seat.

When I first got my road king , I didn't much care for the seat either, a good friend told me the new rk seat has to be broke in. I have 4000 miles on the seat now and find that it does soften up a bit over time. I have an Ultra low seat also and it does look bulky without a backrest , but is very comfortable.
