Default Powder coating opinions (Matte or Gloss)

All

Just looking for some opinions...

I am slowly blacking out my bike. My RoadGlide is Vivid Black. Previously, I had in my mind that everything that touched the Vivid Black Paint would be powder coated gloss black and anything that touched the engine would be matte or flat black.

So far I have done the following:

GLOSS BLACK
  • Rear Turn Signals
  • Saddle bag latches
  • Rear fender struts
  • Enforcer front and rear wheels
MATTE BLACK
  • Heritage Style Bars (from HD)
  • Short-Stem mirros (from HD)
  • Air cleaner cover and backing plate
  • Horn Cow Bell and bracket
  • Front Crash Guards
  • Front fairing supports
  • Rear Crash guards
  • Rear Brake lever
  • Heel/Toe Shifter
  • Floor board pans
  • Exhaust heat shields
  • Starter end cap
This winter I was going to have the front turn signals and the tour pak mount done in gloss black.

The question is the tank console - I was going to originally powder coat it Gloss Black because it sits on and directly touches the black painted tank. However, I am concerned about the durability and the cosmetic issue that the gloss black has - the gloss black tends to show surface scratches more than the mate. I think the matte will offer a contrast but don't know....

What are your thoughts on matte vs gloss on the tank console? Enclosed are a couple of pics of how the bike exists now.

I wavered over the same stuff a couple of winters ago...ended up going with gloss and love it. turned out great and has held up w/o any problems so far. i ended up doing gloss everywhere except the exhaust/heat shields.

I used to powder coat, I did a gloss black street glide for a bud, we mixed flat with it, I think it turned out nice. Notice his fork legs, they are all powder, flat bottoms with flat flames that contrast to gloss. I did a logo on his fuel door as well.

I like the two tone idea. Was thinking about that myself on a few items.
