Oh, that is good we did not ship one out that was bad. whew!

It is really easy to make the catch can you have work well.

1. Core the foam so that there is a 1/4" diameter hole down the center of it, top to bottom. Also cut the entire piece of foam so that it is 3/16" shorter.

2. Get a piece of hose that will fit inside the cap hose barb hole. Press it into that hole.

3. Cut it to a length that it has the hose ending 1/8" from the bottom of the can when it is screwed on.

4. With the hose sticking in the cap, slide the can, with the foam in it, up the hose and then screw it on tight. Use some teflon tape on the threads.

By doing this, the oil is going to the bottom of the can, then the foam will keep a normal amount of blow-by from exiting the vent holes in the top of the cap.

Rather surprised at all this B.S. to simply run a couple of 2' lengths of hose out and down to the ground. Must be a total of $5 bucks to do it.
Cu do's to DK for profiting on this simple mod.
To me this is like selling water to a drowning person.

And that is how we all used to do it decades ago.

Now there are 3 new factors in play-

1. Some air cleaners don't have anywhere to attach the hose to, thus the need for various fittings.

2. Lots of folks don't want to "mark their spot", and more so, they don't want oil misting along the bottom of their bike, attracting dirt.

3. It is another place/opportunity for bling

Also make sure the crankcase oil is not over the full mark, set level just below full mark. If it is slightly overfilled, it will blow excess oil out.

A person posted in one of the many 2017 threads that H-D has addressed the oil in the air cleaner problem on the new engines by venting into the transmission case. This is a superb idea and i cannot believe this has not been thought of before ( I know I sure never thought of it).

This can be done on a 2016 and older bike with a little work. On way is to remove the existing vent fitting on the top cover and replace it with a fitting that has 2 nipples so the engine vent hose can plug into it and the other being the atmosphere vent. The problem is the crankcase pressure may just push oil right out the other nipple, blowing oil all over the transmission.

The other method is to remove the cover and drill and pipe tap it in another location (front right side maybe) and put in a nipple and run the hose to that. Then the engine would vent right into the transmission where the oil can blow inside harmlessly and the original vent hose would relieve the pressure in the transmission case.

Definitely would not plumb the crank case breather into the transmission. Anything but to atmosphere will have an unwanted negative impact on the longevity of the machinery.

That's exactly what I thought when I heard about the change for this year. I run redline in the tranny and mobile 1 in the engine. Not sure that any mixing of those 2 is a good thing, no matter how minimal it is. Of course I don't want it in my intake either, so all my bikes get vented to the ground.

All of you that don't "want that in my trans", what do you think is in the engine? That is primarily oil coming out those breathers. Anyway its the same stuff rotating around in your engine for thousands of miles. There is nothing in the breather that will hurt the transmission, whatsoever. You people seem to think the engine or trans can "taste" oil or some ****. Mixing tiny bit of oil with "redline" or whatever magic elixir you use is not going to cause an atomic reaction.

This breather bypass crap has turned many of you into fanatics. If your engine is blowing that much oil out the breathers then you are getting way too much blow by and have other problems. Although most of you will make a thousand excuses why that can't be the case in your engine.

Actually an analysis of that crankcase mist shows more than just oil. There is water vapour, oil and sulfides. Nasty concoction of stuff much better out of the motor or transmission. Your choice but it certainly isnt just pure oil.
