Default Taking bike on a cruise, need suggestions on a simple tool kit to take

Wife andIare taking 06 Ultra on a9 day carribean cruise along with 2 other friends with Ultras 06/07. My question iswho has a compact tool kitto take care of most problems that may happen. I seethat HDhas somea tool kits and a tire repair kit whichI plan on purchasing. Any recomendation on what kit would be the best to take, HD or other. We will be island hopping for 5 days and may see a HD dealer but cannot count on it. So if you can think of anything else to take alongsure would appricate your suggestions. AlsoI will be taking the bike in for 10,000 mile service before boarding the cruise ship.Again any suggestions sure help. I would think that this trip would be somewhat the same as a cross country trip and what do most travelers pack?

Premade kits are a rip-off, IMO. You are better off going over your bike and figuring out what tools you will need to tighten this or adjust that, then going to a tool store and buying the tools. A zippered bank bag makes a great carrier.

Best way to set up a road kit is to take the time and go to a shop and ask the old time mechs what they suggest. I know I need to get one together too.

I completely agree with this. If your dead set on buying a pre-made kit, the Cruzetool kits are the best I have seen. Your going to pay to much for one though.

I carry an assortment of combination wrenches, Allen wrench set, 10mm open end (for the battery terminals), 3 torx bits, Flat and Phillips screwdrivers, Multi tool, small crescent wrench, tire plug kit, duct tape, zip ties, extra set of spark plugs, rag. Has worked for me so far... knock on wood.

Dang,....... I didnt realize that they would let you bring your bike on a cruise with ya. I've been on a few cruises and have another one planned soon. Which one are you going on?

Glad to hear your loading the bike on a ship. Was afraid for a moment that you planned to float it on the high seas. Don't know about yours, but mine don't float so good. [sm=massbounce.gif]

I don't know about cruise ships, but the ferries I've used don't have good tie downs for bikes - they're about four inches wide, filthy, and difficult to use for securing a motorcycle.

I bring Soft Ties and my own ratchet tie down straps. I assume theyrequire theowners to secure their bikes for liability reasons. Leave it in first gear and cinch the front brake lever to minimize the chance of the bike moving.

It might be worth a call to the cruise line to find out what the protocol is - better to know beforehand rather than being surprised as they're casting off.

Windzone makes GREAT toolkits at a reasonable price. Get them cheap on ebay:

Pep Boys sells decent Motorcycle tool kits for $40. Just change the metric combo wrenches and buy one of their tire plug kits ($5).
