Can anybody tell me if a paint set from a 2005 RK Custom FLHRS will fit (with no modification) a 2004 RK Custom FLHRS. The set includes the tank, fenders and side panels. I know the carb vs injected tank is a no go or so I am told. I purchased a 2004 FLHRS that was in a wreck and will have to replace other items also. Too bad there wasn't a way to find which parts are interchangable between Road Kings.

 

Part numbers tell at least part of the tale. Buy, borrow, beg, acquire a parts manual, or check with the dealer and see if there are differences in the part numbers. The carb & FI tanks are different and not interchangeable. FI tank has the fuel pump inside, IIRC.

And sometimes even parts with different numbers will interchange. Have fun!

 

As far as I know no changes were made in the FLHRS between 04 and 05. The only change was the availability of some new colors.

 

The body work should interchange no problem, no modification. The difference between fuel injection and carbureted models is that the FI will require both a fuel pump, and a return line on the tank, while the carbureted version will only have the fuel valve.
