Thinking about a Road King
#13
Have no Hesitation
I went from a Sportster to a 2012 Road King and was concerned about the weight and handling I shouldn't have been. The day after I picked it up complete with wife on the back went on a run with the club and didn't spare the horses on some tight and twisty roads, I was very impressed. I've made a few changes to the suspension in the meantime and it is even better now. They are a great model to have.

What color was this bike?

I have owned a 2009, 2012, and now a 2014.
The 2009 was the first year for the new frame and the last year without cats.
The 2012 was a 103. I didn't especially care for the tank decal. This one had a brake light switch recall - no big deal.
The 2014 has some of the Rushmore features including a beefier front end and a stronger motor. The front fender light is gone and it has a nice emblem on the tank. I also like the new wheels. And the bags are much improved. The stock handlebars fit me great and I will not be swapping them out.
I bought the 2009 with 35,000 miles and put another 15,000 with no issues. I sold it and bought the 2012. After riding the 2012 for a while I thought I might be better off with a Softail (in an old guy and the RK was getting a little top heavy, or so I thought) so I traded it for a Deluxe - a mistake on my part. I tried to like the softie for about 18 months and wound up trading it in on my current 2014. Looking back, I probably should have kept the 2012 but I really like the 2014 and plan to keep it for quite a while. One more thing, as far as I can tell, the 2015 is identical to the 2014 model except for color options. Good luck and ride safe.

I love my Road King. Unless you are someone who just has to have a fairing, of which I am definitely not, I can't imagine owning anything else.
The classic styling, and convertible nature of the bike just can't be beat in my opinion. I can go from a stripped down knock around town bike, to full touring in minutes if I choose. It is really several bikes in one.

Most versatile model HD makes. Love mine. As previously mentioned you can add a fairing or ride it as is. I rode mine without one for 6 years. Just added a detachable one. It's off for around town and on for long distance cruises. I also add a tourpak for long hauls with the wife. I ordered mine with cruise. It is the one option that is missing from most standard Roadies
Good luck with your purchase
