If you are in a strong reception area, an antenna in the fairing should work fine. If you are not in a strong reception area, you are going to give up something in terms of clear reception of AM and FM signals. FYI.

I had the HD Boom 'hidden' antenna. It was ok. The reception wasn't as strong as the stock whip antenna. Seat-of-the-pants I'd say it was about 60-70 percent as good as the stock antenna. I never had another type of in-fairing antenna, so have nothing in that regard to compare this antenna to, for you.

I had a shorty antenna on my 04 roadie and it wasn't as good as the whip on my 08 Ultra. That totally scares the poop out of me about the hidden antennas. If you find a good one I'm in.

9.00 dollar universal from Wal Mart.. Works fine.. Better than the Dakota amp'ed hidden I had. Just drill some small holes for zip ties and lay flat in faring.

I had a hidden antenna on my '05, and it sucked. Only received the strongest stations.
On the '14, I switched out to a "Shorty" antenna along with a matching CB antenna. Exceptional reception.

Was tired of having the whip antenna so I switched to a J&M inner fairing. As stated earler the reception suffers a bit. But I find it a fair tradeoff to the improved look. As long as I am close to town there is no difference. A friend with a Street Glide has the Harley boom model and the J&M is about the same for FM and a little better for AM as compared side by side same stations with HK radio. Also the J&M doesn't need to be wired for 12 volts and it cost less at about $45.

I just installed the Boom antenna on my 15 RGS. It is advertised to be equal to the whip in reception but I'm not so sure. I can't stand the whip and I had to lose it for my tour pak so it's worth it to me. I only have 1 good rock station that's in reach anyway and it still comes in so I'm good.
