I don't have the same V&H pipes, but I thought I would share this information. I recently bought a street glide that has the hi output power duals. It was extremely loud. So loud that my ears would ring for hours after I got back from a ride. I bought the V&H Quiet Baffles to quiet it down. When I went to install the baffles, I noticed that the prior owner had removed the fiberglass socks from around the pipes. So I guess this is a long way of saying that without the fiberglass, I thought the pipes were way too loud. It sounded great sitting still, but didn't make for an enjoyable ride.

Don't these socks eventually burn off?

Probably be better to buy a set of Rineharts or the V & H High outputs as they are much louder and then maybe try to sell your MO's?
