Harmon/Kardon radio Aux Jack.

Harmon/Kardon radio Aux Jack.
I am aware of the several issues with the Harmon/Kardon radio such as display fade and Aux Jack not working, I had both of these issues.
It took about 25mins for me to remove the fairing and another 5 to remove the radio. Thanks to posts on You Tube I lifted the 6 tabs around the faceplate, pulled forward and removed the faceplate. I removed the two torx screws at the top of the radio and two at the rear and removed the radio top cover. I immediately saw that the Aux Jack was in pieces. The component was soldered in at four places and was simple to remove. Now to find a replacement Jack!
I called Harmon/Kardon parts dept and was put through to an Indian/Pakistani gentleman with poor English who said that they were not able to supply the part and to call HD. I complained because as the maker of the radio they should be able to supply the part, he insisted I call Harley and also gave me the # of a parts supplier. I called the supplier who had no idea how to help me without a part# and suggested I should go back to H/K. I called H/K parts dept again and was put through to another Indian/Pakistani with very poor English with the same result.
I called the local Harley dealer who were happy to help stating to bring the radio in or they would remove it for me charging an hour's labor. They would then send it to Harmon/Kardon for repair at a cost of $350.00! Why would I do this for a part probably costing less than $10.
I searched the internet and found a company called Digi-Key electrical parts suppliers. They had a good web site and I searched for Aux Jacks, there were many but all had pictures, I found one similar and was able to view an exploded view with measurements and found a match, I was able to order just the one part # DJ-3524-ST-TR cost approx $8.00. After I placed the order a received a call from a very pleasant lady from Digi-Key stating that I had ordered incorrectly, the part was in fact $1.50 and with shipping would total $4.38. I received the part two days later (impecable service) .
It took about 2 mins to solder the part and re assemble the radio. The display issue was solved by using a pin and bending the connectors a hair where the faceplate connects to the radio (per a post on thus forum) . The radio, Aux Jack and display now work perfectly.
If anyone is considering doing this themselves it is a very simple fix if you can solder.

Sooner or later it will break again, regardless of the new solder job. You need to run an aux input from the rear of the HK with a permanent connection running out to where you can get to it and plug it into something. The solder tabs on the printed circuit board WILL pull away from the board eventually with constant in and out of the 1/8" stereo plug. Been there, done that.
There's easy instructions on how to install a rear aux in jack here:

You should also change out the front handlebar clamp bolts that are too high and hit the bottom of the HK unit. This constant beating causes the HK to exhibit numerous symptoms tracable back to a damaged circuit board in the area of the contact. Here's a pic of the stock versus the thinner headed front bolt for the handlebar clamp:
The old stock bolt has a Hex head and the newer bolt has a Torx head.
