Default Rear Wheel Adjuster...

Changed brake disc on rear of bagger yesterday..When putting it back together, I noticed the adjuster washer on the nut sidehas some slop in it. How do I tell if the back wheel is straight...? Thanks

Default RE: Rear Wheel Adjuster...

On my Road King, I just used a tape measure. It doesn't have reference holes in the swingarm, so I measured from the pivot. The wire/tubing option looks like the simplest.....no getting the eyeglasses to read those little marks on the tape.

I was having slight handling issues in turns......sure enough....the axle adjuster was sloppy enough to set the wheel a heavy 1/16" out of line. Not enough to notice when riding straight, but the more I leaned over in turns, the more pronounced the problem became. Left turn sweepers were smooth, but felt like the rear was wanting to come around the front; right turh sweepers caused a "crabbing" motion that became a wobble (rear, not front) when pushed harder.

Smooth now

Once you get it lined up, mark the cam adjuster with a "sharpie pen" before you take it off the next time. When you put it back on just line up the marks and it's done.

The adjuster on theRH side should be at the same position as theLH side. If you have a gap, the wheel/axle is not pushed forward all the way. I make sure I give the tire a good kick after snugging the nut a bit to be sure both adjusters are seated, (per the manual).

I marked the adjuster washer with a sharpie whenI took it off. It is the slop in the adjuster washer that i'm concerned with. When you get it put together- the adj. water has almost a 1/4" of slop on the axel. To use the wire allignment tool, I guess I should pop off the swing arm bolt covers whenI check it...The swingarm has no indicator holes drilled. THANKS FOR ALL REPLYS !
