Default What are the benefits of stage one on a 103.

I see many riders with stage 1 but what are the benefits? Is it worth the cost? I have a 2011 ultra 103. Will I gain 10 HP increase?

Default My opinion

This is the best thing I did for my bike. I purchased the 2012 Limited and at my 1000 mile service I had the dealer do the stage 1. What a change in a bike, it "woke" the bike up. I noticed snappier throttle response, the sound seemed to change to "that sound". It felt like a huge change in power, I found that I could wind the engine to higher RPM's. I would not hesitate on that mod ever again. If I ever get another bike, it will leave the dealer with the mod.

You will definitely appreciate the difference. Change out the head pipes as well and get rid of the heat. Stop there. I did the stage 1 and a year later installed the stage 4. An improvement but not as noticeable as the stage 1 was.

Properly done you'll get about 5% better performance.

When I rode my Slim new from the dealer I had lugging when I shouldn't have, I installed the FM Micro Tuner, ARNess Big Sucker, and I now have the FP Black Upsweeps, I can run run at 45 mph in 5th and it's smooth and no lugging, I couldn't do with the stock setup.
The motors are strangled from the EPA.

My scoot is a 103" RGU.

I did a stage 1 for the purpose of cooling the bike down. As a result, I'm cooler, can ride further, bike will last longer, everything is more comfortable. It pulls in sixth gear at 60 mph and at 100 mph. Did I mention it is much cooler?

I've got a 2012 street glide. It is one of the best things I did to the bike. Makes the bike ride like it should. With the factory header and air cleaner it felt like the engine was being strangled.

5-8 horsepower is a reasonable expectation for most. That would include less restrictive mufflers, (slip-ons) a high volume air cleaner and probably some brand of fuel management device. In order to get more horsepower out you have to get more fuel+air into the combustion chamber. The benefit is twisting the throttle and having a more responsive engine which should give you increased performance. Horsepower, as most will agree is very, very expensive to come by.

On our 2012 Ultra we did the StageI, cut the cat, and added 4" Rhineharts. It's like a new bike.
