They did not offer Black Pearl when I bought mine 2000 flht but if the did I would
have went with it, I really like the sheen,.

Wife's new SG is vivid black. She was torn between it, the black cherry and the black pearl.She decided on the black after seeing the black pearl and the vivid black side by side and felt that black and chrome just looked better.

Put a Black Pearl bike beside a Vivid Black in the sun and that will tell you.My ride is a 05 Black Pearl RK

Black Pearl will not show fingerprints and swirl marks as easy as Vivid Black, but in the sun it looks Grey not black..

I like the Vivid Black, But the Black Pearl is lower maintance...

Congrats on the new Road Glide , I think you will like the color. The only bad thing is the DUST shows pretty bad.

 

your metallics and pearls are easier maintenance. All paints and varnishes are, to an extent, clear. When you add pigments is when the character changes and the most common in black is "lampblack" (the oily film left from burning candles, unrefined kerosene, etc.) That's why it swirls easy, it's softer. On the flip, that's why your white painted garages and fences chalk. Titanium dioxide. A lot of black "metallics" use mica for the sparkle, an extremely hard mineral commonly found in granite. Less oil, harder and more scratch resistant paint.
