"PGR members are involved for only one reason. There is no personal reason to be involved other than the honor we feel standing flag lines and hope that we can in some way comfort loved ones through their loss."

Well, though I'm late for the party, I'll say it anyway: "Let's cut the chickenshit politics!!!

From the time I start the bike in the morning, to the time I park it back in the garage, when it comes to the PGR, I do NOT tolerate politics!!! There is only ONE objective to be met, and that is the support of the Service Member and his/her loved ones.

Only ONE objective.

Thank You for your understanding!

So, Jon...

Some woman asked a State Captain for a mailing list and then threatened bad press if the demand wasn't met?

Can more information be devulged, please?

I'm going to guess that Ed told her to "sod off" in the most gentle manner and this is the issue to which National took exception... that he was a bit rough in his response?

More than one State Captain has experienced this kind of request? From the same person or representative of the same organization? Can these persons or this organization be named?

Randy...

Thanks for the quote I used!

National explained the circumstances to the satisfaction of most, issuing an apology for the silent treatment. We now have a state captain from Mississippi. Hopefully, he will be as skilled at ride safety as was Ed. Time will tell.

In the end, this was not about politics. Ed Baker was the only SC most of us ever knew, and he was respected as much for his focus on rider safety as he was for his ability to organize honor escorts. Whenever Ed wasn't there, I knew I'd have to make a go/no-go decision. I've seen ride captains selected because they were home town boys, then endured the melee that followed a no-brief ride with full flags in a 15-mph crosswind behind 65-mph LEO vehicles who didn't know who was in charge because the RC was riding in the #2 slot. I've seen ride captains who were part of the funeral party and had no idea how many bikes there were behind them because they were in the chapel instead of briefing the riders.

We respected Ed because he had this "thing" about not letting one funeral turn into two.
