I thought I had accidentally surfed to a preacher site!

Posts like these belong at the very least in the off-topic thread section; at the very most in the sh*tcan.
Sounds like an "A-Men" to me brother...

Sorry, I've got the bad 'tude going today. Someone seems to always come up with the magic bullet to make everyone realize they should wear a helmet to make themselves feel better about wearing theirs. Common sense should be the only reason. Darwin's theory should take over from there.

To me its all about freedom. Life is certainly not safe and I sure don't want the goverment tellingme how to live my life. Just ban motorcycles altogether and that will make us safer, right? Oh and by the way I always wear a helmet.

I hate helmets...can't stand them. But I do have people I'm responsible for, and when I do go I'd like for them to a) not have to scrape my brains off the sidewalf and b) be able to have an open casket funeral.

Helmets suck but I value my head.

If you're single, by all means go helmetless. If you have a family, I see it as irresponsible to ride without one. And if you do die from not wearing one, I don't think it should be the state or fed's job to care for your dependents.

Do you always wear fingerless gloves too? Oh, wait, that's another ridiculous, repetitive rant that crops up on this site all the time. Sorry, got them confused.[8D]

I did not think this post would be well received. But if you do ride without a helmet, please have decent medical insurance and a will. You should have those anyway. I too have buried four friends the last 4 months. All died of something unrelated to motorcyles, but it certainly caused me to update the wills, review my insurance.

Life is good but we need to make sure we look after those we leave behind.

I never said that I was against choice, but I still find the arguments for not wearing pretty lame.

I also hatehelmets in the summer time. It can be 100F here and 100% humidity. I have a evaporative vest, and a rehydrator that I freeze and wear to compensate.

Just bought a HJC Sysmax flip up helmet. Very nice and better airflow than my old HJC.

A. Lincoln said:
Those that would sacrifice a little freedom for security deserve neither

Actually the quote is from Ben Franklin:

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little
temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

- Benjamin Franklin , 1759
...

This was once the country of freedom, let me live my life and make my own choices. To steal a phrase from another topic in today’s culture....
My body my choice... The same justification should be used here, be consistent.

If you wish to wear a helmet, by all means please do, I will not pass judgment on you for doing so, afford me the same respect for my choice to not wear one.

...

Ya want to wear one, great, do it! But stop preaching to others, it's their choice if the state laws allow it.

I live alone, no wife, no kids, full insurance, no helmet law in my state, and am 61 years young. And I choose, period!

As my state motto says, "Live Free, Or Die"

Abe's quote was "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves. "
I have a friend who had to have a section of his intestine removed after it was ruptured by a seat belt when he was in an accident. He still buckles up everytime he drives. The risk of being thrown from the vehicle far outweighs the risk of an injury like his. Likewise, the risk of fracturing your skull or grinding your skin/muscle/tendons off your head probably outweighs the risk of neck injury due to the added weight of a helmet. But in keeping with Abe's quote, if you choose not to wear one, that is up to you.

Holycrap, enough already! We know the pros and cons of helmet wear!! Quit preaching its people like you who think they know whats best for everyone thats slowly taking away the very few rights we have left. I mean look at the gun laws now. At this rate the only people that will have em is criminals. Yes you have the right to your opinion, thats your god given right. Then again we didnt ask for it either. I swear we should have a preaching section for this forum somtimes. These threads about helmet wearare gettingold and what does it have to do with dyna models specifically? Please preach about how bad *** the dyna series bikes are and not helmet bullshit. Nobody is tellingYOU you shouldnt wear one.

I'm sure glad you helmet ****'s have set me straight! I live in a nanny state so I always wear a helmet but when I cross south into Ohio or Indiana I just might have taken off the lid and enjoyed a little wind in the hair. Now that I know the instant I do I'll die a horrible, bloddy death I'll be sure and keep the lid on.

Man, that was close.

I just don't like the nanny government telling me I have to wear a "DOT approved" helmet when riding my Dyna(hows that for getting back to the Dyna stuff?)[8D]
If I had my 'choice' ,I'd wear a skid lid, not some "DOT approved" POS...
But the sorry-a$$ed Governor here knows what's best for me.
She has the chance now to pass the bill(no helmet for over 21 with proper insurance), veto it, or (do what all politicians do) and do nothing.
Then the bill would automatically pass.
As the old saying goes, "I'm free, white and over 21..." I should be able to wear what/when I want to, when riding.
I believe when your "number is up, it's up".
Does not matter if you wear a helmet or not.
Heck, you could have a anyurism(sp) just putting on one...
