Paid $80 at this nice, clean, motel in DeLand this year. Not the Ritz Carlton, but it was safe, clean, etc. Somehow the price of camping, along with the communal toilets & showers, doesn't add up to anything that even remotely resembles a good nights sleep. Throw in some rain, a bunch of drunks, and a golf cart dragging the tent, and I would have to pass.

I understand your dismay and anger. I also know that no matter what organization, there are going to be chitheads. That said, I have been to some really GREAT ABATE rallies and outings, and I have been to some when we could not get out of there fast enough(Drunk and disorderly). Your situation sounds like a "run and don't look back" type. But the good that ABATE does lobbying politicians is worth my dues, whether I go to any functions, rallies, parties or not. Just my 2 wheat pennies worth.

I stayed near Silver Springs. $15 a night, electical hookups, showers, and real peaceful. The only downside it is a little bit of a ride. But really that is what I am there for.

$35/night for camping?

Are yopu kidding me?

I can get a hotel room for that.

Next time, just pull over to the side of the road, chain your bike to a tree and nap.
That was $35/ three nights ($11.66/night). Maybe you can find a $35/night room in Skanckcramento but I'll bet you won't get much sleep and you'll need that shower in the morning.

I've noticed that almost everyone on the ABATE poker runs is drinking and I'd bet many couldn't pass a field sobriety test after the second stop of a poker run.
I do drink, just not when I'm riding or driving.
I think ABATE should put some effort into this issue. I';; admit that I am hesitant to renew my membership every year.

Hell. most all of the poker runs go through bars. While I will have one myself, it won't be while I am riding or if I am going to be riding later. When I'm done for the night, then its ok to let your hair down. There are lots of folks I don't like to ride with if they haven't been drinking much less if they are drunk. I don't belong to abate but support their fight for our rights.
