Can head over to Gatlinburg and back across the Foothills Parkway then over to Cherohala Parkway, down through Robbinsville then up through the Nantahala Gorge on way back to Maggie.
It's a good place to home base from and the temps stay decent even in dead of summer.
Thunder in the Smokies is May 4-6 and from the ad below they are stepping up to the plate since the Cherokee Survivors Rally has been cancelled the last two years now.

Cannot make this one, my daughter has her chorus banquet and I expect her to win sophmore singer of the year, won freshman last year and we have never heard her sing at home!

 

We could have had her sing last Saturday!

 

I want to go! Need to speak with the Great and Powerful NGB to see what, if anything, may already be on the calendar for that weekend. I think it's open though...

Another couple that are riding friends is already signed up as well. We have made this trip for the last few years.
Probably gonna try to stay here http://jonathancreekinn.com/inn.html as we have in the past. Can get rooms or they have houses across the creek that sleep 2-12 or better. House is generally about the same as getting two good rooms and they have wrap around porch and hot tubs.

Probably will give this until about Monday and make a reservation if they still got 'em. After that you are of course welcome but on your own for a room as they will go quick up there.

May go up right after work on that Thursday since ya can't check into the place until around 4 PM. Leave by around 5:30 and could get there by 8 or 8:30 easy (from my place that is).

 

This sounds like a great trip! I would love to do it, can't promise right now though. Funds running kinda short now. Maybe I could run up there for a day.
