I had a boss when I was seventeen, (General Manager of a car dealership ) invited me in to his office with the rest of the salesmen. He asked me if I wanted a drink. You like scotch ? , don't know never had it. " well you'll either love it or hate it" , the rest is history , it's my fav.

As usual Mick, you are correct!
As is the case with all cocktails, they started as a way to help disguise the awful taste of poorer quality and less refined liquor. These days there is just no excuse for it IMHO.
I got on a single malt scotch kick there for a few years. Mostly Glenfiddich.
