Expect the oil fields to pick back up now that winter is over? Or is it back to farm and field work.

 

Right now, its normal for us to be slow with break up. But usually while break up, everyone is repairing their equipment to get ready for summer. Now, no one knows if there will be summer work, so nothing is getting repaired. As for farmers, the little guys are bringing some stuff in. The big farms, they have their own people, lathes, welders and what ever else. They are basically a corporation now. Plus, with the new equipment, its all replacement parts with very little rebuild parts. Through away society.

 

The small town (2500) my wife is from in South Dakota has a shop that is mostly repair. My FIL took me out to see it once. A Quonset Hut with a few lathes and Bridgeports.
The biggest engine lathe had a 24" swing and an 8' bed. The head and tail were on the only pieces of concrete in the place.
