The one good thing they do is let us know how active a member is...so when so arm chair commando comes on, been a member for a dozen years and only has less than 100 posts, we will know that they don't contribute much. Not saying everyone does that. There are days that go by when I don't post a thing, but at least try to help the group out when I can.
This is what tips me in favor of keeping them. Of course you have your anomalies but who cares. I can usually get a good idea from someone by there post count and join date.
As someone else stated earlier who cares what other people do? This is a free forum that we are given access to and use the way we want to use it (for the most part), who are we to dictate or criticize how other use it?

That sounds good in theory, but makes no sense...If I say hi on every "New Member" thread I'll have a high post count and you'll respect me.
Ok that makes a lot of sense...not..

Hi, Bobg03. Welcome to the forums, we respect you for you, not the number of your posts.

This whole thread reminds me of something my Dad once told me;
"The bigger the crowd,
The more people show up to see it".

Speak for yourself, we most certainly do not know him!!
Almost two years and a measly 365 posts, he's gonna have to pad that by playing games or post whoring to gain any of this Okies respect.
