Trust me, it's everywhere.
Our local paper is really, really good for a town this size. Unfortunately, it's not immune to the current trend of stickin' a frickin' apostrophe at the end of every frickin' word that ends with "s". They even misspell words in headlines and photo captions.
What finally took the cake was "rascism". WTF??

So, a question; is a copyrighted image ok as long as the copyright attribution is clearly included? For example, a photo with "copyright Associated Press" in the pic?

The HerdMaster is of the opinion that ANY writing on the picture i.e. watermark, source or attributing language constitutes a copyright.
