I would like to agree. Robots cannot do everything. But I don't see the youngsters coming into my trade (machining) so that after guys like me are gone, I am unsure of what will happen. I'm not talking about guys that program machines to run, I'm talking about people that know how to make something.

Man you have no idea. Bring a big guy to tears almost. Having parents thank you profusely an all an students telling you their experience in my shop was as important as their schooling n all. I dig it. Getting rid of those that will never grasp it is the flip side. I had to do that on Monday. Put the poor kid in tears. If it was easy everybody could do it ya know.
Anyways ill lay out some pics on what we are doing tomorrow. One of my big summer projects.
One of the things I really like about where I work is that they actually have a really good apprenticeship program. They'll give you a full time job, pay for some of you collage while you get a 2 year degree in some type of machining or pre engineering degree and then give you a permanent position when you graduate. Hard to find skilled laborers in the trades anymore.

Machining isn't "glamorous" enough for most kids these days. There can be decent $$$ in it, and can be very rewarding personally. I get to tell people that I've made stuff that has gone to Mars. Not many with a high school education can say that.
Looking forward to the pics.

That is cool.
For us it is. Silly servant for the good old Navy. At least as far as tech pay goes. The engineers I work with are actually making a lot less than they could in the private sector.
We have an aerospace department that developed the Cube Sats that a lot of companies are using now. I think there were like 20 of them on the last Saturn 5 rocket that launched at Vandenberg last year.
I've also made the diaper changing tables you find in Wal-Mart bathrooms. One end of the spectrum to the other.
Awesome as well. Never thought about the guy who designed those.
We see what you did there!
