We came across the river from the west and started making passes right along the active runway....had troops in the open and running everywhere like chickens.
I spent all day there the opening day of TET, working the airfield then moving east to downtown Bein Hoa and east out Hi-way 4 out towards Xuan Loc and Black Horse. I have no way of knowing how many NVA/VC we killed that 1st day.
Doc ain't kiddin, either. I flew in there a couple hours after he shot up the place, never saw anyplace with so many holes, before or since (although VC rockets made the big ones). Few months later, got to talk to a guy that was stationed there, said it was a "secure" base, so the guns were locked away (I was on a "secure" base for a couple months, talk about feeling insecure, not sleeping with a gun). They just ran in the opposite direction from the VC, got holed up in a building and said they could see the VC coming at their building when a gunship went by and took em out. Doc and his buddies saved a lotta lives that morning. Guy said when it was over, they bulldozed the bodies into piles and burned them, hundreds of em. Wish I'd taken some pictures, but things were kinda tense...

Ariens 42"; one of the old ones was a 46, too big for a couple spots. Glad I got it when I did last year, $400 more now. Supposed to be American made, wouldn't touch one of them odd name chinese mowers.

Yeah, Last time I spotted a drip from her cage, I reached under there and turned the filter lose with just my thumb & forefinger!!! At least they put it on tight this time.
