My house had 1 3/4" insulation in the walls - the stuff they use in mobile homes with 2x2 framing. One room would get frost on the walls in an outside corner. Had no wrapping over the outside composition board, and when I got new siding several years ago, were places where triangular pieces would have been cut to fill in gaps, but they didn't, just plastic siding between the outside air and that 1 3/4 insulation. What a difference with filling in the blank spots, wrapping the house, new windows and the right size insulation. I don't think building codes were enforced at all in this state, at least up to when I bought this house. I knew when I bought it the wiring was crap - wrong kind of wire, and aluminum, too, could see it in the service box, figured re-wiring when I bought it - but it still passed inspection for a VA loan. Probably inspected from his office desk...

most of my wiring is metal incased.....but all copper wiring. as for the sheathing, it's tongue an grove 3/4 inch pine, thruout plus the same for the roof, cut at 45 degrees, not 90 on the rafters. for insulation they used insulate board with an air space.......so instead of blowing in insulation we resided with 1 inch foam molded to the vinyl siding,....makes for a well insulated home.....corners were done too........first thing we did was replaced all the windows with thermo panes, 3/4 inch........hope to reap the rewards on energy and resale, someday.
