Wife's Explorer: leaking high pressure hose on the power steering. $450.
My Infiniti AWD: bad left front wheel bearing, right front wheel bearing starting to go. $1,250.

That woulda paid for half a dozen skulls for the bike. Maybe even an eagle claw or two.
Hose can be a bithc to get to. If yours is like a lot of front wheel drives, bearing comes installed in a new hub, gotta replace that. Did one on the daughter's car a couple years ago, bithc of a job, but we did it for about a fourth of what the shop wanted. Bet I did it better, too. Shop had replaced the first one near the end of the warranty, and put it back in with no antiseize; bustard was really corroded in there, otherwise wudda been easy. Cleaned it out, lotsa anti seize, bet next one, if ever, will be much easier.

If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

Long as the salt hasn't ate too much metal away, rebuilt or new motor (rare these days, yours might last 3-400,000 miles), transmission, all them accessory parts and electronics, expensive, but takes a heck of a lot of em to add up to 20-30,000 bucks for a new cage. 15 years has been about tops for me up here in salt land, don't think I've put 2 grand in a car's upkeep yet, including tires. Not much shop cost in there, though, done most meself.

Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist, but a person who drives a race car is not called a racist?

The wife's Explorer has a reman engine in it. Put it in about 3-4 years ago. She really loves "her truck", it's a Limited with V-8, leather, moonroof, power everything. I'll keep it as long as it makes financial sense. Yeah, the power steering hose is buried behind a ton of crap.

Anybody here besides me remember when you could open the hood, lean over the engine, look down, and see the pavement? Those days are long, long gone, unfortunately.
